Advanced Glass Illusions & Fake Horizons

When building underground or enclosing vast artificial biomes, creating the illusion of infinite space or custom fog is vital. Mastering glass layer illusions unlocks incredible atmospheric effects without mods.
The Custom Fog Effect
To create "fog" on the floor of a build (like a toxic swamp or an ethereal cloud city base), you don't need actual particles. Dig a trench at least 6 blocks deep. Fill the very bottom floor with a solid bright block (like lime wool or light blue concrete). Then, starting from the layer directly above that solid block, place alternating layers of stained glass and air blocks upwards: Glass, Air, Glass, Air, Glass.
Because Minecraft renders transparent blocks incrementally, the multiple layers overlap visually. When you look down into the trench, the layers of glass blend together to hide the solid bottom block, creating a thick, volumetric "mist" or "poison gas" effect that you can walk through.
The Fake Sunset Horizon
Building an arena underground but want it to look like it's resting against a setting sun? Build a massive, curved wall surrounding your zone at a distance. Light up the wall entirely. In front of that wall, build three spaced-out layers of stained glass. Use Yellow glass closest to the wall, then Orange, then Red closest to the player. The colored glass acts as an atmospheric filter, blending the bright background into a gradient that artificially tricks the eye into seeing distance and scattering light.
